Lord of the Rings: Masterpieces (Topps, 2006)
Although new to the world of sketch cards, Len Bellinger has been an exhibiting abstract/conceptual artist for more years than he cares to mention.
His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in NY including the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center (MOMA), The Queens Museum, The Drawing Center, The Hudson River Museum, The Alternative Museum, the Pratt Institute Gallery, 55 Mercer, the Kathryn Markel Gallery, and New York University. His shows have been reviewed in the New York Times and Artforum magazine, and his work is included in numerous private collections. As a secondary educator, Len Bellinger has been teaching photography, astronomy and art (painting, drawing, etching and art history) for over 25 years, energizing young women to pursue careers in the visual arts. His love of card collecting, cinema, art and the creative work of J.R.R Tolkien somehow lead him to collect the Topps Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King autograph and memorabilia cards, and eventually the stunning Lord of the Rings: Evolution sketch card set. After reading (on Scoundrel and in NSU magazine) that a new Topps Lord of the Rings: Masterpieces sketch card set was in the works in '06, Len enthusiastically created and submitted over 40 submission studies in an obsessive compulsive drive to be included in that illustrious sketch card set with so many other talented and respected artists.
He has also worked on the Star Wars 30th Anniversary sketch card set, and is part of the illustrious artist roster for both Lord of the Rings: Masterpieces II and Indiana Jones: Heritage. Len looks forward to working on any cinema related sketch card sets in the future, and truly enjoys the online correspondences he's been fortunate to have fostered with both super talented artists and die hard collectors from around the world... and all because of these little "sketch cards!"
